PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active bumper device for a vehicle capable of preventing a damage reaching a portion except for a bumper of the vehicle by securing a sufficient stroke to absorb impact force and capable of reducing the damage to a colliding object when the colliding object is not so hard such as a pedestrian, etc. by changing a reacting characteristic in correspondence with the colliding object. SOLUTION: This active bumper device is furnished with an impact absorbing force change-over control means 11 to change and control so as to absorb impact energy by elastic force of a compression coil spring 5 extended by releasing a compression holding state of the compression coil spring 5 by a first stopper 6 and a second stopper 7 when size of the collision energy discriminated by a collision object discrimination means 10 is lower than a specified threshold value and to absorb the impact energy by plastic deforming reaction of an impact force absorbing body to be locked at a specified extending length position by a lock means 8 by extending it with the compression coil spring 5 in addition to the elastic force of the extended compression coil spring 5 when the size of the collision energy is higher than the specified threshold.
