<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly image a subject that includes a high-luminance part and a low-luminance part. <P>SOLUTION: If there is a portion of high luminance for a subject, the electric charge amount accumulated during shutter-open hours may reach such an electric charge amount to the extent that a pixel can accumulate to the most (hereinafter, to be referred to as limiting electric charge amount), in the pixel of an imaging element that corresponds to the portion of high luminance; and in this case, the electric charge of the pixel will saturate and no more electric charge will accumulate to that pixel. Electric charges are accumulated linearly, until saturation, as shown in straight line L1 of a figure 2. So, based on the limiting electric charge amount Q0, the time Tqt when the electric charge amount reaches a threshold electric charge amount Qt and shutter hours Ts, an electric charge amount Qts that is accumulated during shutter hours Ts is deduced.
