<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode active material with improved chemical stability and its manufacturing method, as well as, a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of high capacity and with superior charge/discharge characteristics that uses the same. <P>SOLUTION: A cathode 2 is provided with a cathode active material. The cathode active material is provided with composite oxide particles, a coating layer fitted at least to part of the composite oxide particles and made of an oxide containing at least one coating element from among lithium (Li), nickel (Ni), and manganese (Mn), and a surface layer fitted at least at a part of the coating layer and made of oxide containing magnesium (Mg). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
