PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light condensing guide capable of suppressing scale-up of an apparatus, and reducing a load of shading correction due to variation in light-receiving sensitivity, and to provide an image reader. SOLUTION: One end surface of a plate made of a light transmissive material linearly extends and is formed as an incident end surface for allowing a light to be incident, and is cut like a strip on the midway from the other end surface of the plate to the incident end surface; front and rear surfaces of the plate which has been cut into a strip are deformed like a curved surface from the incident end surface side toward the other end surface side; and a portion cut into a strip is stacked in the thickness direction of the plate in the other end surface side. Thus, the light condensing guide is formed so that the other end surface is formed as an emission end surface shorter than the incident end surface and having a thickness equivalent to a plurality of plates. The thickness of a single sheet of the plate forming the emission end surface is thinner than the thickness of the incident end surface. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
