PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method suitable for producing an optically active 2-fluoroalcohol derivative on a large scale, which is an important intermediate of medicine and optical materials. SOLUTION: The optically active 2-fluoroalcohol derivative is produced by reacting an optically activeα-hydroxycarboxylic ester derivative with sulfuryl fluoride in the presence of an organic base or in the presence of an organic base and "a salt or complex comprising an organic base and hydrogen fluoride" and then reacting the resultant optically activeα-fluorocarboxylic ester derivative with a hydride reducing agent.
