PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein unrewritable areas are generated by rewriting firmware and when unusable areas are included, the successive operation of the firmware is interfered. SOLUTION: The printer for forming an image based on the data transferred from an outside host computer includes: a conversion table storing means which stores information for conversion of an address to access a nonvolatile memory; an address converting means which converts the address input based on the information of the conversion table storing means into an address used for an actual access when accessing the nonvolatile memory; an updating means which updates the conversion table stored in the conversion table storing means in the case that a malfunction of the device is detected when deletion and writing are conducted on the nonvolatile memory; a searching means which searches for the conversion table stored in the nonvolatile memory in an initialization process for any of the above means.
