PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To output image data where a characteristic difference, such as density unevenness, is reduced by a simple control configuration. SOLUTION: An image reader arranges a plurality of small image sensors 10, 20, 30 linearly for connection and forms a large image sensor CIS. The image reader comprises: a correction data creator 41 for creating correction data AMD for matching the gamma characteristics of the image sensor 10 to those of the image sensor 20 by using the gamma characteristics of adjacent image sensors 10, 20; a correction data storage section 42 for holding the correction data created by the correction data creator 41; and first, second, and third gamma circuits 43, 44, 45 for correcting gamma for each of small image sensors 10, 20, 30 by using the correction data AMD created by the correction data creator 41.
