PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic light emitting device with high mechanical strength in a complementary color layer formed by a vacuum deposition method, and with high adhesion between layers. SOLUTION: The light emitting element contains a transparent substrate, the complementary color layer absorbing at least one part of light from a light source and emitting a wavelength distribution which is different from absorbed wavelength, a gas barrier layer, and organic EL elements. The complementary color layer is discontinuously formed in a pattern on the transparent substrate by the vacuum deposition method, and layers on top and in bottom of the complementary color layer are provided with portions directly joined in the picture element.
