PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolyester which is produced by using a catalyst not containing a metal compound such as a titanium compound, an antimony compound, a tin compound, or a germanium compound, as the main catalyst component and is excellent in transparency, color tone, and moldability. SOLUTION: The copolyester is produced by polycondensation using a polycondensation catalyst containing an aluminum compound. The main component of the copolyester is recurring units each consisting of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic glycol, and the copolyester contains 1.0-20.0 mol% at least one copolymerization component selected from among terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, neopentyl glycol, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, bisphenol A, and an ethylene oxide adduct of bisphenol A.
