PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display apparatus improved in bright room contrast and reducing power consumption at the time of driving. SOLUTION: The plasma display apparatus comprises transparent electrodes (11a, 12a) formed on an upper substrate (10), black layers (11c, 12c) formed on the transparent electrodes (11a, 12a), and bus electrodes (11b, 12b) formed on the black layers (11c, 12c). The bus electrodes (11b, 12b) are constructed so as to contact the transparent electrodes (11a, 12a) at the outside of the region where the black layers (11c, 12c) are formed.
