973,669. Batteries. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. July 30, 1962 [Aug. 4, 1961], No. 29118/62. Heading H1B. Battery electrodes comprising porous, at least partly metallic grids containing as active material an oxidic compound of the grid metal are made by reacting the grids themselves with an aqueous solution of at least one salt of chromium, zinc, or aluminium, subsequently treating with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, e.g. potassium hydroxide, to form the active material, and rinsing the grids with water. The salts of chromium, zinc or aluminium are used in the presence of anions having an oxidizing effect such as nitrate or chlorate ions. A finely-divided nickel grid is treated with aluminium nitrate or chlorate to form nickel hydroxide as active material. Additional active material is formed by simultaneously treating with nickel (and/or cobalt) nitrate as in Specifications 487,607 and 331,540 to introduce active material into the grid pores. |
