<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet communication equipment of simple configuration in which unnecessary traffic does not occur within a network. <P>SOLUTION: The transmission cycle of an ARP packet is set to a first cycle (cycle of existence confirmation) and an ARP transmission timing is waited (step S2). In the transmission timing, the ARP packet is transmitted (step S3). When there is an ARP response thereafter, processing is shifted to step S7 and when there is no ARP response, processing is advanced to step S5 (step S4). In the step S5, transmission/reception of data is stopped, the transmission cycle is set to a second cycle (cycle of recovery detection) (step S6) and processing is returned to step S2. when the transmission/reception of data is not being stopped in the step S7, a control flow is returned to the step S2 and when the transmission/reception of data is being stopped, processing is advanced to step S8.
