PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic bowel movement treatment apparatus automatically detecting feces by an appropriate disposition of a feces-detecting sensor and a detection method. SOLUTION: This automatic bowel movement treatment apparatus K is provided with a diaper-shaped casing A, a detection means disposed in the diaper-shaped casing A and detecting excrement, and a cleaning means disposed in the diaper-shaped casing A, injecting fluid and performing a prescribed cleaning; the diaper-shaped casing A has a support plate part 100 and an erection part 200; the support plate part 100 has a dirt flow passage 101 and a discharge part 102; the erection part 200 has a front face recessed part 113 recessed for receiving urine; the detection means has a feces-detecting sensor G; and the feces-detecting sensor G has a light emission part 106 disposed at the edge of the dirt flow passage 101 in the opposite side of the discharge part 102, and a light receiving part 107 disposed in the front edge upper side of the discharge part 102 and receiving the light from the light emission part 106.
