PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the length of a hydraulic auto-tensioner by eliminating a plunger spring in a pressure chamber. SOLUTION: A hydraulic oil is reserved in a cylinder 7 into which a sleeve 6 is inserted. The inside of the cylinder 7 is divided into the pressure chamber 9 and a reservoir chamber 10 by a plunger 8 slidably inserted into the sleeve 6. The pressure chamber 9 is allowed to communicate with the reservoir chamber 10 through a leak clearance 22. The pressure chamber 9 is allowed to communicate with the reservoir chamber 10 through a passage 26 in which a check valve 24 allowing only the flow of the hydraulic oil from the reservoir chamber side to the pressure chamber side is installed. The tensioner has a rod 11 and a return spring 15 moving when the plunger 8 is moved. A wear ring 17 slidably supporting a rod 11 is installed in the cylinder 7. The hydraulic oil is enclosed in the cylinder 7 by an oil seal 18 placed on the wear ring 17. The oil seal 18 is locked by an internal snap ring 20 locked to the inner periphery of the cylinder 7. A cylindrical spacer 16 installed between the sleeve 6 and the wear ring 17 is placed on the sleeve 6. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
