PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new cyclic olefin-based addition copolymer which is excellent in melt molding processability, transparency, and heat resistance, has low water absorptivity and permittivity, has a low metal content, and can be suitably used for optical part applications such as optical films, and to provide a method for producing a cyclic olefin-based addition copolymer in which the addition copolymer can be produced at a high yield using a small amount of catalyst. SOLUTION: The cyclic olefin-based addition copolymer comprises a structural unit (1) derived from a cyclic olefin-based compound having a 4C alkyl group as a substituent, a structural unit (2) derived from a cyclic olefin-based compound having a 5-12C alkyl group as a substituent, and optionally a structural unit (3) derived from another cyclic olefin-based compound.
