PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder having a constitution in which a bottom plate is elevated/lowered with respect to a paper feed roller every time one paper sheet is fed, which is capable of reducing the cost, saving the space, suppressing degradation of the separation performance by suppressing generation of an impact when the bottom plate is elevated, and suppressing any slip on a separation nip part of paper sheets. SOLUTION: Every time the paper feed is started, the rotation of a single driving source for driving a paper feed roller 31 and a bottom plate 32 is reduced. The moving speed of the bottom plate 32 and the rotational speed of the paper feed roller 31 are reduced below predetermined values (normal speeds), respectively from the start of elevation to the end of elevation of the bottom plate 32. The speeds are kept reduced before a leading edge of a paper sheet P enters a nip part N, and the speeds are returned to the normal speeds. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
