PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a predisposing cause of autism and to provide a kit for detecting the predisposing cause of the autism. SOLUTION: The method for detecting the predisposing cause of the autism is carried out by detecting the presence or absence of an expression abnormality in CAPS2 protein (Ca2+-dependent activator protein for secretion 2) or a mutation of the CAPS2 gene causing the abnormality when compared with a healthy subject for a biological sample derived from the subject. The kit for detecting the predisposing cause of the autism is designed to carry out the detection by RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction) amplification using a primer set of a specific base sequence and an RNA derived from the biological sample as a template.
