MOTOR HAVING A HOLLOW DRIVE SHAFT

A motor (18) assembly for use in an inline device (10) is disclosed. The motor assembly (18) has a motor (18) for operating the inline device. A hollow drive shaft (22) passes through the motor (18) to provide a conduit which an expendable portion (48) of some fixturing hardware (46) used with the inline device passes through to eject from or collect within the inline device (17). In another embodiment, the motor assembly (18) is adapted for use in a tool for setting self-tapping rivets (46). The motor assembly (18) has a motor (18) having a hollow drive shaft (22) adapted to pass through the motor and impart movement to a mandrel (48) of the self-tapping rivet (46). A conduit (24) within the hollow drive shaft (22) is inline with the motor (18) and is adapted to transfer the mandrel (48) from one end of the tool, through the motor and into a repository (17) upon detachment of the shank (48) from the self-tapping rivet.
