The method involves recovering an estimated value on the basis of a measured signal monitoring vector of a derived signal by using a cross correlation vector of the signal observation vector and of the derived signal and an autocorrelation matrix of the signal observation vector. A filter coefficient vector is determined by the algorithm, and is iterated for many ranks of iterations, with a previous time point valid vector and a predetermined start coefficient vector. An independent claim is also included for a filter device of a signal transmission system for processing a distorted signal in a transmission channel signal.
