PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat image display device capable of impressing high voltage, and a spacer used for it, with an excellent anti-static effect as compared with a spacer having a conductive layer on the surface of a base material made of insulating glass. SOLUTION: In the flat image display device provided with a cathode substrate with a cold-cathode element formed, an anode substrate with a phosphor formed, and a spacer arranged between the cathode substrate and the anode substrate for supporting the both substrates, the spacer is structured of a matter having a conductive crystallized glass layer on the surface of a base material made of conductive glass. The crystallized glass layer provided on the surface of the spacer improves an anti-static effect, enables to have high voltage impressed, and improvement of image quality aimed at.
