PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a high-reflectivity reflector having a silver-containing metal layer, and a reflector obtained by the method. SOLUTION: By forming a silver-containing metal layer on a substrate by a vacuum deposition method in an atmosphere containing oxygen and hydrogen, the reflector can be obtained which has a higher reflectivity than a conventional reflector and has a reflectivity of≥97.3% at a wavelength of 550 nm when the metal layer is used as a light incidence plane. A reflector having a higher reflectance is obtained by providing a low-refractive-index thin film layer and a high-refractive-index thin film layer after forming the silver-containing metal layer.
