An image forming apparatus and a driving control method for the image forming apparatus are provided to predict the generation possibility of wrap jam by comparing a front end margin and the density value of a front end area with reference limitation values and comparing entering times of the front end of an image and a printing medium to a second transfer nip, thereby stopping temporarily the operation of a printing system, removing the causes of the wrap jam, and resuming printing operation when the possibilities of the wrap jam is predicted. An image forming apparatus(100) comprises a transfer medium(120), a second transfer roller(130), an input unit(140), a density detecting unit(150), an image detecting unit(160), a paper detecting unit(170), and a control unit(180). The transfer medium receives an image from an image carrier(110) through a first transfer nip(N1) formed between image carriers and the first transfer roller by the first transfer roller while moving in a direction. The second transfer roller transfers the image on the transfer medium to a printing medium(P) through a second transfer nip(N2). The input unit inputs the setting conditions of image data including the front end margin of the image. The density detecting unit detects the density value of the front end of the image from the inputted image data. The image detecting unit detects a point of time when the image formed on the transfer medium approaches the second transfer nip. The paper detecting unit detects a point of time when the printing medium enters the second transfer nip. The control unit compares a paper entering time detected by the paper detecting unit with the entering time of the image on the transfer medium and compares the front end margin and the density value with reference limit values corresponding to each of the front end margin and the density value, and determines whether to stop printing and generate an error message.
