<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a configuration capable of maintaining appropriate image density in response to a sudden change in the quantity of electric charges. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a developing device 5 that is capable of supplying toner to an electrostatic latent image on an image carrier 2; a toner supply means 103 that supplies toner to the developing device 5; and a control section 100 where a reference image density detection means 101, which detects as a reference density the density of a patch image formed on the latent image carrier 2, and a toner concentration detection means 102, which detects the concentration of toner stored the developing device 5, are connected to the input side and a toner supply means 103 on the developing 5 side is connected to the output side. Based on the detected value of the density of the patch image, the control section 100 controls the operation for the toner supply means 103 in order to adjust toner concentration in the developing device 5 so that the detected value of the density reaches the target detected value of the density.
