PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head, a head suspension assembly, and a disk drive which is reliable and suppresses head floating height fluctuation even at high-speed seeking operation. SOLUTION: A slider 42 of the head 40 has a negative pressure cavity 54 formed on an opposite surface 43, a leading step 50 projecting on the opposite surface and located upstream of an air flow with respect to a negative pressure cavity, a trailing step 58 projecting on the counter surface downstream of the air flow with respect to the negative pressure cavity, and a trailing pad 60 projecting from the trailing step. The trailing pad has a base 62 on the trailing step at the air flow-out end of the slider, a pair of wings 64 extending from the base to both sides in a second direction, and two extensions 66, 68 extending toward upstream in the air flow and forming recesses opened to the negative pressure cavity side.
