PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decorative coating film, which has an excellent fieldstone-toned appearance because of colored flakes that are dispersed evenly but create rich convexo-concave feeling. SOLUTION: A coating roller is provided with a coating surface that is composed of a coating material having a three-dimensional mesh-like spatial form rich in voids. With the use of the coating roller, coating is performed with the coating material impregnated with flat flakes. The flat flakes are colored with one, two, or more colors having short diameters B each of which is the same as or less than the mesh pore diameter A of the coating surface. Thus, a decorative coating film having fieldstone-toned appearance is formed, such that colored flakes are evenly dispersed without being concentrated in convex parts of the coating film that are formed at sites corresponding to mesh pores of the coating roller upon coating.
