A clothing treatment apparatus is provided to eliminate odor from laundry and to change a water softening member at proper times by using water PH detecting unit. A clothing treatment apparatus comprises a clothes receiving unit, a steam generator(200), a water supply unit(300), a water softening member, and a softened water detecting unit. The softened water detecting unit is placed between the water softening member and the steam generator, and detects the state of water which is supplied to the steam generator. The softened water detecting unit is a PH paper which is changing itݔs color according to the PH index of water. The softened water detecting unit has a transparent window to allow users to check the state from external.
