A passive entry system and a wake-up and trigger method thereof are provided to perform a trigger operation by a smart key, and reduce power consumption of a battery by operating the smart key only when motion of the smart key is sensed by a motion sensor arranged in the smart key. A wake-up and trigger method of a passive entry system includes a step(S110) of permitting a smart key to transmit wake-up and trigger signals; a step(S140) of waking up a micro controller of a smart electronic control unit by the wake-up signal, and checking a first identification of the smart key by the trigger signal; a step(S160) of permitting the smart electronic control unit to transmit a second identification request signal to the smart key if the first identification of the smart key is authenticated, and turning the smart electronic control unit into a sleep mode if the first identification of the smart key is not authenticated; a step of transmitting the second identification to the smart control unit if the second identification request signal is received in the smart key; and a step of permitting the smart control unit to receive, read, and authenticate the second identification, and perform door locking/opening, engine starting, and anti-theft function.
