A vacuum cleaner having an agitator performing linear translation is provided to prevent surface pressure from dropping and improve cleaning efficiency by installing an agitator for floating dust. A vacuum cleaner having an agitator performing linear translation comprises a vacuum channel installed at the lower part of a suction nozzle part, a suction port, an agitator(13), and a driving unit. The suction port provides a suction passage to a suction pump of a main body from a vacuum channel. The agitator is placed at one of the front or rear of the vacuum channel at the lower part of the suction nozzle part. The driving unit drives the agitator to perform linear translation. Additionally, an agitator guide groove(15) shaped like a long recessed part at the lower part of the suction nozzle part, of which a length is shorter than the length of a guide groove, performs linear translation to allow maximum moving distance to be the length of the guide groove.
