A digital audio/video decoder system composing a file reader capable of obtaining an encoded audio/video data stream from a data source; a navigator that instructs the file reader to obtain the encoded audio/video data stream; a splitter that separates the encoded audio/video data stream obtained by the file reader into component data streams comprising an audio data stream according to any one of a plurality of audio data coding standards; a subpicture data stream, and a video data stream according to any one of a plurality of video data coding standards; a reprogrammable proxy filter that synchronises and partially decodes the component data streams; and the one of any one of a plurality of audio data coding standards is different to the one of any one of a plurality of video data coding standards.
