A system for filtering a Session Initial Protocol (SIP) message includes: a SIP Application Server AS, a SIP proxy, a first filtering unit and a second filtering unit; the first filtering unit generates filtering criteria and sends the filtering criteria to the second filtering unit; the second filtering unit filters a SIP message sent from the SIP proxy to the SIP AS according to the filtering criteria, and instructs the SIP proxy to discard the SIP message or instructs the SIP proxy to send the SIP message to the SIP AS. Embodiments of the present invention further provide a method for filtering the SIP message. Because the SIP messages sent from the SIP proxy to the SIP AS are filtered, the load of the SIP AS may be effectively controlled, and unnecessary SIP messages may be intercepted.
