The information storage medium (700) includes a data area (720) in which replacement information is managed for data replacement due to a defect of recorded data or data replacement by logical overwrite (LOW) due to updating of data. The data area (720) of the medium is formed of more than one R-zone, and a priority attribute (826) is assigned to each R-zone so that the data to be recorded in the medium can be recorded in each R-zone based on a priority of the data. Accordingly, by dividing a user data area (720) of the medium into a plurality of R-zones and writing data in each R-zone according to an attribute of data to be recorded, the user data area (720) of the medium can be used according to an instruction of a host (440), thereby improving medium usage efficiency.
