An apparatus for treating food waste is provided to enhance the airtightness and the durability of a discharge port, by improving the structure of the vicinity of the discharge port. A hopper has a bottom plate(13) with a discharge port(15), wherein the discharge port is formed by opening a portion of the bottom plate. A collection case collects food waste discharged from the hopper. A cover is hinge-joined to a rear surface of the bottom plate of the hopper to open or close the discharge port. An operation bar(26) is rotated centering on a rotation central shaft(27) to push or hold the cover. The operation bar includes a rotation central member for rotating centering on the rotation central shaft, a holding member distanced from the rotation central member and formed in a length direction of the rotation central member, and a connecting member for connecting the holding member and the rotation central member. Further, an inflow part is formed between the cover and a surface member.
