An electrophoretic display is provided to reduce effects of an electric field, formed between a first electrode and a gate electrode, by reducing a distance between the first electrode and the gate electrode, thereby helping smooth movement of electrophoretic particles and accordingly improving image quality of the electrophoretic display. First and second substrates(110,120) face each other. A first electrode(111) is formed on the first substrate. Source and drain electrodes(131,132) are separately disposed on the second substrate so as to head for the first electrode. A dielectric layer(133) covers edges of the source electrode and drain electrode on the second substrate, and has a hole form in a space between the source and drain electrodes. A second electrode(121) is connected with one of the source electrode and drain electrode, and is formed on the dielectric layer. A semiconductor layer(134) is disposed within the hole, and formed between the source and drain electrodes and on the source and drain electrodes. A gate insulating layer(135) is disposed within the hole and on the semiconductor layer. A gate electrode(136) is disposed on within the hole and on the gate insulating layer, and is disposed so that a distance from the first electrode can be farther than a distance between the first and second electrodes. An electrophoretic layer(140) includes electrophoretic dispersants(142) and electrophoretic particles(141) interposed between the first and second electrodes. |
