<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a user immediately refer to parts relevant to index entries displayed on an index list of an electronic document. <P>SOLUTION: The index entries to be the index of the electronic document are extracted from the electronic document with appearance position information of the index items, link destination information using the appearance positions in the electronic document as link destinations is generated from the appearance position information to be imparted to the respective index entries about the extracted index entries and an index list in which the index entries to which the link destination information is imparted are arranged is created.
