PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device comprising a discharge lamp, and a concave reflector having an ellipsoidal front reflector part provided with a light exit opening, and a spherical central reflector part continued to the rear side of the ellipsoidal front reflector part, and having high light utilization efficiency by reducing a ratio of light absorbed in an arc tube part of the discharge lamp by preventing light entered into the spherical central reflector part from passing an arc center and reciprocating a straight line connecting arbitrary two points on the reflecting surface of the spherical central reflector part. SOLUTION: This light source device is provided with: the discharge lamp in which, within a discharge vessel, a pair of electrodes are arranged oppositely to each other; and the concave reflector which has the ellipsoidal front reflector part which is provided with the light exit opening, and the spherical reflector part which continues to the rear end of the ellipsoidal front reflector part. The light source device is characterized in that the middle between the electrodes of the discharge lamp is arranged with respect to the concave reflector to be located in front of a virtual plane which includes the boundary part between the ellipsoidal front reflector part and the spherical reflector part.
