PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively cancel particularly a portion of DC offset and to avoid deviation accompanying distortion of distribution of light in the length direction of a pattern when return light is incident obliquely with respect to the direction of the detection pattern of an optical detector, when obtaining a tracking error signal by a push and pull method in an optical disk device. SOLUTION: When performing arithmetic processing of detected outputs of photodetecting parts B1, B2, C1 and C2 positioned at the center in a direction orthogonal to the tracking direction of an optical detector 51 for detecting the return light, the arithmetic processing of the detected outputs is performed in the state of cross multiplication to obtain the tracking error signal.
