PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing system which maintains fault tolerance with no disk exchange even if many spare disks are not mounted, is compact and can be used for a long time, and to provide its method and a storage device. SOLUTION: In the data processing system having a host device and a storage device for providing a first storage area for reading/writing data from/in the host device, the storage device is provided with a securing part for dynamically securing one portion of area of a plurality of first storage areas as a second storage area when the second storage area being spare for transferring data stored in another portion of an area does not exist when a failure occurs in the other portion of area of the plurality of first storage areas that are provided.
