PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing the deterioration in image quality due to movement blur by providing a black display period in one frame period of an input image signal, and capable of compensating the response characteristic of a liquid crystal to realize high-quality image display by applying proper emphasis conversion to the image signal. SOLUTION: The device comprises: a black insertion means for inserting a black display signal into at least an N-th vertical display period in one frame period of the input image signal; an emphasis converting means for obtaining an emphasis converting signal with which the liquid crystal display panel 5 reaches transmissivity defined by the image signal after one vertical display period elapses, from the frame frequency converted image signal; and a signal switching means for switching between the image signal emphasis-converted by the emphasis converting means and an emphasis-unconverted image signal in a vertical display period unit of the frame frequency converted image signal.
