A mobile terminal having a camera and a method for photographing an image therein are provided to store a photographed image identical to a preview image by automatically judging the vertical or horizontal position of a mobile terminal through navigation keys, a camera hot key or a rotary sensor in case a user photographs an image with his mobile terminal positioned vertically or horizontally. A mobile terminal comprises an input part(40), a display part(50), and an image processing part(20). The input part(40) includes a navigation key and a hot key to drive a camera(10). The display part(50) outputs an image when the camera(10) is driven according to the operation of the input part(40). The image processing part(20) delivers the preview image of a photographed image to the display part(50), creates the same image as the preview image, and stores it. In case the camera(10) is driven through the navigation key, the image processing part(20) creates the preview image according to the size of the display part(50) of which the vertical length is longer than the horizontal length. If the camera(10) is driven through the hot key, the image processing part(20) creates the preview image according to the size of the display part(50) of which the horizontal length is longer than the vertical length.
