<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit which can improve luminance of a liquid crystal display panel and a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight unit is provided with a light guide 302 in which an incident light from an LED 301 is taken in from its end part and a parallel light from an emitting surface is emitted by reflecting in a prism-shaped reflection groove and also is provided with a micro-lens array substrate which takes the parallel light emitted from the light guide 302 and emits toward a liquid crystal display panel 100 through a micro-lens array 202 after reflecting by a prism 205. The prism 205 has a reflection groove 205a extending in a perpendicular direction to a moving direction of the parallel light incoming from a side surface. The micro-lens 202a extends in a perpendicular direction to the reflection groove 205a.
