<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acceleration pedal device of an automobile capable of solving the inadequate exercise of a driver while driving the automobile, and its operating method. <P>SOLUTION: The acceleration pedal device 11 of the automobile 12 comprises a momentum detection sensor 46 for detecting the momentum applied to a pedal mechanism 13 while driving the automobile, and a drive source control unit (a drive-by-wire) 47 for controlling a wheel driving device (a gasoline engine) 21 based on the information of the momentum detection sensor 46. The pedal mechanism 13 comprises an exercise operation input unit (a pedal part) 51 by a force against an exercise load applied thereto, and an action converting unit 53 for converting the force transmitted from the exercise operation input unit 51 into rotational motion or straight-going motion.
