PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color separation optical system capable of suppressing the increase in the whole length, and to provide an optical apparatus with the optical system. SOLUTION: The color separation optical system 2 includes: a photographing optical system ZL for forming a real image of an object; and a color separation optical element P2 for performing the color separation of a luminous flux from the photographing optical system ZL. The color separation optical element P2 includes at least one reflection surface for dividing the luminous flux into a transmitted light and a reflected light, the reflection surface reflects the luminous flux once.
