PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material information detection device capable of removing a sheet material by enlarging forcibly a facing interval between an external force application member and an external force reception member surely even when a power source is stopped. SOLUTION: A motor 5 pulls up the external force application member 1, while rotating a cam 6 and compressing a spring 2 for application, then releases it, and allows it to collide with the sheet material. An impact force when receiving the external force application member 1 through the sheet material by the external force reception member 8 is detected by a piezoelectric element 7. When power supply to the motor 5 is stopped, a retracting spring 11 races the motor 5 through a wheel 10, and the cam 6 is rotated, and the external force application member 1 is retracted to the highest position.
