PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To concisely perform an initialization process on an indication position of a pointer when turning power on. SOLUTION: The indicating instrument for a vehicle is equipped with: the pointer 5a moving in an indication place; an index 5c serving as an indicating object of the pointer 5a; a stopper 5d for regulating the pointer 5a so as to keep it from indicating the outside of a prescribed range; a movement 5b serving as a drive source for the pointer 5a; a control means 2 for outputting a drive signal to the movement 5b in order to control the movement of the pointer 5a in the indication place; and a power switch 1 used to choose between turning-on and turning-off of a power supply at least for the control means 2. After the power supply is turned on, the control means 2 performs a determination process for determining whether the power supply has been turned off this time by operating the power switch 1, and controls the movement 5b so that a different initialization process is performed based on the result of this determination.
