PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can be easily and smoothly opened and closed. SOLUTION: The thermal printer 10 comprises a printer body 12 and a cover 14. The cover 14 is attached to the printer body 12 to be rotatable between a close state and an open state. A platen roller 25 is provided on the cover 14, and a thermal head 41 is installed in the printer body 12. The thermal head 41 is disposed oppositely to the platen roller 25 in the close state and presses the platen roller 25. The thermal printer 10 is equipped with an engagement ratchet 30 and an engagement pin 19 as a locking mechanism for engaging and releasing the printer body 12 and the cover 14 each other. The engagement ratchet 30 and the thermal head 41 are connected with each other by a link member 50. The thermal head 41 retreats from the platen roller 25 following the engagement release of the engagement ratchet 30. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
