The method involves synchronizing image recording and operation of a brake disk (2) with one another such that graphic data of the individual image recordings is assigned to a surface area of the brake disk. The recorded graphic data are supplied to a pattern recognition unit (4), in the context of which, defects (10,11) are examined from the images on the surface of the brake disk, and on recognition of a defect, signaling or recording of defects takes place. An independent claim is also included for a device for detection of defects with a brake disk.
