PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in which it is necessary to process a substrate on which an LD is mounted, high accuracy is necessary in the setting of a monitor PD in order to obtain stable monitor PD current, the number of manufacturing steps is increased, and a manufacturing cost is increased with this. SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser device comprises an LD 10 and a surface-incident PD 20. The LD 10 and the PD 20 are arranged on the same substrate 1. A laser beam S10b for a monitor emitted from the back surface of the LD 10 is incident on the light receiver 21 of the PD 20, by making the laser beam incident from one incident surface 20a of the side surface of the PD 20, and reflecting the incident light in the inner portion of the PD 20. That is, the laser beam S10b for the monitor is not directly incident on the light receiver 21 of the PD 20, but incident on the light receiving portion 21 using the inner reflection of an optically-transparent semiconductor substrate constituting the PD 20.
