PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio terminal unit capable of changing the profile of a MAC channel for composing a link layer channel according to communication quality that an application requests when setting the link layer channel for each application, and to provide a method of controlling channels. SOLUTION: The radio terminal unit 200 comprises: a profile determination section 205 for determining the profile of the MAC channel, for example the presence or absence of automatic retransmission control, affecting communication quality based on the communication quality, for example transmission delay, requested by the application; and a channel control section 207 for controlling the transmission and reception of data in the MAC channel based on the determined profile.
