PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monomer capable of forming an electroconductive polymer without using a harmful reagent. SOLUTION: The method of making a compound of the formula (wherein, Z is Se or S; Y is NH or O; X is O or S; and W and W' are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, -C=ONH2, -C=ONHR', -C=ONR'R' and -C≡N; and R' is a 1-6C alkyl) is disclosed.
