PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve appearance of an automobile at a normal time, and securely receive a load added when the automobile rolls over so as to secure occupant protecting performance. SOLUTION: The car body structure is for an automobile that is capable of traveling in a state in which a roof is removed. It is provided with a cross bar 10, comprising a strength member, which is disposed at an interval above the floor along the car width direction to be connected to right and left car body side wall parts of the car body close to the rear side of a seat device, and guard members 20 and 21 normally positioned in a normal position in which they are luffing on the cross bar 10 with their base end parts adjoined to support members 13, and switched when the automobile rolls over to an actuation position in which the base end parts are inserted to upper end parts of the support members 13 till they are erected to protrude upward from the upper end of a backrest of the seat device.
